(The word Valet was used to describe "personal man-servant" in its older form varlet since 1456.) Louis XIV of France had 4 head or Premier valets de chambre and 32 other valets to run the Chateau of Versailles.) These were very prestigious positions, usually respected and feared for there exceptional access to the King.
These days our Valet sit silently and breathless in our bedrooms or dressing rooms ordained by our suits, shirts and ties or general clothing along with our special cufflinks and tie pins safely stored in the purposeful drawers.
